The Three-in-One Activities Post

The class on Thursday was about leading groups effectively. The book gave great ideas to get a group to work together while being productive. I really liked the different table setups the book gave for different situations. I also liked the different methods one could use to approach conflict within a group. Matt and Nikki did a great job with the activity for group problem solving. I liked listening to the different situations and solutions.

Problem solving with individuals was the chapter that we went over during the retreat. The chapter discussed different ways to approach the problem and how to set up goals. Brooke and Sam also had a great activity that had us work in groups to make a positive goal and a SMART goal. I liked the activity because I usually do not write down my goals so it was a good practice.

The icebreakers during the retreat were a lot of fun! I learned a lot about the other peer mentors during these different activities. I believe activities like the icebreakers are very beneficial because we learn a lot of things that we probably would not know about each other otherwise. When you better understand a person, it is easier to work with him or her because you know where that person is coming from. I could use theses icebreakers in the Fall to get to know the incoming students.

  1. Liz,

I also liked the different table set ups pictured in the book about leading groups effectively. I think they had very good ideas about how to create a space in the way that makes it easy to address the entire group in a way that clearly communicates the discussion. Also, I don't typically want to write out my goals either, but the activity was a good way to remind me of the effectiveness of doing so. The icebreakers have all been really great to use for the fall!

  2. Liz,

I really enjoy the icebreakers as well! Theyre my favorite part of the retreats. I think they allow us to grow as a peer mentor team and become closer. As you said in your blog, it is much easier to work with a person when you relate to them and know a little about them. Icebreakers are a really good way to make this happen!

    See you in class,
    Makayla

  3. I agree the icebreakers are a great way to get to know people and things about people that we otherwise wouldn't. It definitely makes it easier to work with people when you know where they are coming from.
